Whitney Rimel, a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of California, Fresno Division, was appointed to the bench effective February 4, 1998. Before that, she was a partner in the Sacramento law firm of Diepenbrock, Wulff, Plant & Hannegan, and chair of the firm's Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Practice Group. Judge Rimel has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar Association, and has served as chair of the Debtor-Creditor Relations and Bankruptcy Committee of the Business Law Section, as well as chair of the Sacramento County Bar Association Bankruptcy Section. She has taught bankruptcy at McGeorge School of Law and commercial law at the University of California at Davis School of Law, and has been a frequent speaker for continuing legal education programs. Judge Rimel received her B.A. from Oberlin College, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and her J.D. from the University of California at Davis, where she was Order of the Coif.
