Judge Holman

Thomas C. Holman, Judge Holman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of
California at Berkeley (1968) and his J.D. from U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law (1971).
Prior to his appointment, Judge Holman engaged in the private practice of law in San Francisco, California,
specializing in bankruptcy and commercial law. From 1972 to 1976, he was an attorney in the legal
department of Bank of America. From 1976 to 1978, he was an associate at Graham & James. From 1978 to 1982,
he was a partner in Jellen & Holman. From 1982 to 1995, he was a partner in Pettit & Martin, where he
was the Chair of the Commercial Finance and Bankruptcy Department. From 1995 to 1999, he was a partner
in Holman & O'Grady. At the time of his appointment, he was Of Counsel in the San Francisco office of
Portland-based Bullivant Houser Bailey.
While in private practice, Judge Holman was active in several
professional organizations. He is a former chair of the Debtor/Creditor Relations and Bankruptcy Committee
of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California. He was a founding director and is a past president
of the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum. He is a former director of the California Bankruptcy Forum. He is a former
member of the Bench/Bar Liaison Committee of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of
California. He has served as a Resolution Advocate in the Northern District of California's Bankruptcy Dispute
Resolution Program since the program's inception. At the time of his appointment, he was serving on the
Insolvency Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California.
Judge Holman entered duty
as a Bankruptcy Judge on December 16, 2000 in Modesto, California. On July 5, 2005, upon the retirement of
Judge Jane Dickson McKeag, Judge Holman transferred to Sacramento, California, where he currently presides in Department B.
